Doing the Things a Spider Can

Spider-man was good fun. Sam Raimi was at his best and did great justice to the comic book character, and I liked Toby Maguire in the lead role. Spider-man purists may be upset to find that in the movie, Peter Parker shoots his webs directly out of his wrists due to the genetic alterations from his spider bite (as opposed to manufacturing artificial spinnerets).Willem Dafoe made an excellent creepy bad guy, with those massive cheekbones of his, that craggy face and a kind of a crazy smile. I'm definitely going to watch it again, and Adam says he will forgive me if my second viewing is with him. Not a problem. The ending majorly hinted at a sequel, and I see from IMDB that there's one earmarked for next year.

Pete and Pete Return

My dad called me up the other day and said, "Guess what we're watching right now?" It was nothing other than my favorite television show ever, The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Apparently reruns are being shown on Nickelodeon affiliate Noggin. If you ever get a chance to, catch this show, whether you're 12 or 112. It's great, hilariously funny, imaginative, weird, and yet true-to-life.

The Future is Now

I did some shopping for my new apartment today, and I discovered that the K-Mart here has this cool self-checkout setup. You basically scan in and bag all your items yourself, and then pay into a machine with cash or swipe your card through. It wasn't faster, at least the first time around, because the machine doesn't seem to scan products quickly in succession (maybe to prevent errors or duplications?), but I like just about any arrangement where I get to be in control. There was no line, and I got to bag everything to my satisfaction. I was a little nervous that I hadn't de-magnetized everything properly so that I wouldn't set off the alarm when I left, but it all went fairly smoothly.
