Black and White Dragonfly

Summer's here. Two weeks of gorgeous sunshine, and warm, warm, warm, and what do I do for my first free weekend in this nice weather, while my handsome boyfriend from Sydney is visiting me? Right, I catch a nasty virus, and spend the whole time lying on the couch, physically miserable. Took Monday off, too, because I was still feeling iffy, and I hadn't done anything over the weekend. Dishes to clean, clothes to wash, plants to water, straightening up to do...

Today I came back to work, with not much more than a stuffy nose. On my walk home from lunch, I glanced down at the pavement, caught sight of something that looked like a dragon-fly-shaped toy. Actually, it was a real dragonfly, with the oddest coloring I've ever seen. Usually I see the blue-green irridescent ones flying around all the time. This one had a white body with black markings and plack patches on its wings. I picked it up and carried it home.

"Is it dead?" asked Mr Wiggins.

"No, I felt it crawling on my finger a minute ago."

"Then why didn't it fly away?" he said.

"I dunno," I answered.

"Then it's probably dying," he said.

"Yes, but better that it dies on a plant in a garden than dying on the sidewalk," I said, and I put it out in the herbs growing on the balcony, overlooking the lilac bush and the trees. It's my attempt at penance for unceremoniously squishing that earwig last week. It's easy to want dignity for beautiful and strange things.

As I typed, I just got an email that Frank Paynter's interview of the infamous Gary Turner (not to be confused with PorridgeBoy) is posted. Go read it. I know it will be good, and I haven't even read it yet.

Mr Fishrush sent me some interesting emails on my Creative Commons post. I'd like to post some of that stuff; I'm just waiting on Kent's closing comments and permission to do so. Heh.

Baldur's Gate was the more enjoyable adventure rpg overall, but Final Fantasy 10 is more immersive and takes longer to go through; it's more cinematic, too. I liked the flow of Baldur's Gate better, but I like the way FFX introduces you to game concepts and creates a very believable, full-fleshed alternate universe. I play too many games when Adam is here. We're becoming complete game junkies.
