Gone, Daddy Gone, the Love is Gone

Today I sleep in the chair by the window
I felt as if you'd returned
I thought that you were standing over me
When I woke there was no one there
-- Ash, "Girl from Mars"

On Monday I had this genius idea to upgrade to Debian 3.0. That's why my site and the Blogsticker Factory were out of commission most of Monday evening and Tuesday day. Everything should hopefully be working now.

Tuesday morning, got up early, helped Adam get ready, and we drove down to UW. We met with Daniel Belcher, who is the son of one of my dad's coworkers, and who is working in the HIT Lab there. Cool geek stuff. Daniel is studying Augmented Reality, which I won't bother to explain here (since I link to the site), and he showed us some of the things the lab has worked on. It was especially neat, I think for Adam and Daniel to meet, since they share a lot of research interests. Daniel may also be going to the new HIT Lab in New Zealand, so they'd be in relative close proximity, which could lead to some good academic cross-pollenation.

After we met Daniel, we wandered around the UW campus, which is quite lovely, and then went downtown and had a snack at the cafe below the Elliot Bay Book Co. All in all, a very PNW and very pleasantly geeky day until the part where I had to take Adam to the airport and say goodbye.

So I don't even know when I'm going to see him again. I get to just sit here and wait until DIMA deigns to give me a response about my visa application.

Consolation prizes: a Cinnabon at the airport; no longer having to remember to put the toilet seat down.

*SIGH*
