New Communiqué from the Antipodes
Still trying to get the wireless lan set up at home (hence all digitally quiet on the southern front). Finally got permission to paint the ugly interior walls (see snapshot for evidence of the decripitated state of the current paint).
I've been exploring: a) my artistic side at the Art Gallery of NSW, b) wilderness at a nearby national park, c) science at the Australian Museum, and d) reluctantly the state of domestic goddesshood (e.g. my parents would collapse in fits if they saw how many dishes I've washed lately, before the mold started growing). I can't really comment on the war as all the news coverage of it has driven me into a state of numb horror when the topic is broached. All I can say is right on to Michael Moore's Academy Award speech. I think often of relatives and friends who are overseas fighting or may be called away soon. I hope as many people as possible make it home in one piece.
Coming soon to ARJLog: my little wanabe travel mag article on my day at Sydney Harbor National Park. Whee! Also hopefully at some point I'll have some of my practice sketches up for your general amusement, and snapshots from my favorite spot in the Australian Museum, the bone room.
In other news: Mr Wiggins is recovering from an icky ear/throat/sinus infection type thing. I played nursemaid for a week, and now seem to be fighting of similar but milder symptoms. Note to self: don't kiss boyfriend when he's sick.
And abroad: Kalilily's comments on the efficacy and power of b!x's community blog have got me thinking about ways to use a blog, as a foreigner/newcomer to a community, to build an archive of useful information and catalog a process of discovery.
That's all for this news update since I have nearly used up this month's quota of bandwidth (a curse on the lack of infrastructure here!). Now off to blow my nose.
