Aquafilia

I was conceived over the swells of the Pacific Ocean. I grew up dreaming to the rocking of a sailboat. In my deep happy dreams now, I can still feel the waves under me, rocking me back and forth, as if in my mother's womb. My imaginings are full of mermaids playing in kelp forests.

Tonight I walked past fish in the aquarium; I felt peaceful again, reconnected to a lost part of myself. The cool blue and the dim flickering lights, the slow-motion of the fish, the seaweed, the water, my thoughts. I saw myself swimming with them. I leaned over the top of the water and my secret notion was to dive in. If I just leaned over a little further, I would fall in, sink down, down.
